Lauryn Hill 20th Anniversary

20 years ago, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill rewrote the rules of hip hop. Sway let fans show how much that album means to them, by… making memes of them.

Changing the Face of Hip Hop.

Partnering with Sony Certified Classics, we developed a site experience that let visitors selfie or upload their picture, and have it grace the face of one of the game’s most important records.

Everything is Everything.

Users can adjust the lighting, scale, and rotation of their image; as well as change their name with a few easy controls. Then, they’re encouraged to share their output with Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, and to stream their favorite tracks on their service of choice.

Project Highlights

20,000+ Covers created

In the short time the campaign was live, over 20,000 unique covers were created, many of them shared instantly on social media helping the record again climb the charts 20 years after its release.

How It Works

More than just dropping a webcam capture onto a canvas, the site offers automatic image processing to identify faces and separate them from background noise, as well as applies a multilayered art aesthetic to get the final result as close to the original and iconic cover as possible.

Multiple Countries Supported

The site was versioned for the U.K., Netherlands, Australia, France, Spain, and Germany, utilizing each country's preferred streaming service through each iteration.
